BASIC BOSSING TIPS

-Dodge the boss’s attacks. I CANNOT stress how incredibly important this is. You’d think this would be common sense, but some people, when starting out, don’t seem to realize that it’s kind of necessary to avoid taking a giant hammer/claw/phallic-looking tentacle to the face. While it’s possible to tank boss attacks in earlier boats, later bosses will kill you in one or two hits, and no source of healing will keep up with the damage. It’s important to learn how to dodge properly early on, so that you don’t have to suffer as much later.

-Hit and Run. Do not take the time to pull off a full combo unless the boss is knocked down. You’ll just get hit when the boss decides he/she/it’s tired of your feeble attempts to damage him/her/it.

-Work on your sense of timing. Without a sense of how to time attacks and dodges, you’ll press on an attack for too long and get hit by the next attack, or start an attack too late and get hit by the next attack.

-Work on your sense of spacing. Without a sense of how far you should be staying from the boss at all times, you’ll either be too far away to hit the boss or too close to not get hit BY the boss.

-Smashes tend to do the most damage for anyone who isn’t Staff Evie. More specifically, the finishing smashes at the ends of your combos. Therefore, to maximize damage output, you will need to prioritize hitting the boss with the most powerful smash you can manage without being hit yourself. The way to do this is by starting a combo in advance, far away from the boss. Use your senses of timing and spacing to hit the boss with the damaging smash portion of your combo, while not remaining within attack range for long enough to be hit.

-Many bosses have a weak side. By this I mean that some bosses have attacks which are more easily avoided when moving or dodging in a certain direction. The weaker side varies between bosses, but should be fairly obvious once you face them in battle.

-About Hard Mode and Season of Macha: both make the boss do more damage. However, bosses appear to have less health on Hard Mode. This may be a placebo effect, though.

-Remember, practice makes perfect. As you gain experience fighting a boss, you’ll get a better idea of how it moves, and be able to improve your performance against it. No one started out a bossfighting expert; it’s the experience, and learning from your mistakes, that counts.
